Simple Present Tense

Simple present tense adalah pola waktu yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan kejadian yang tejadi di waktu sekarang, yang meliputi:

1. Menyatakan suatu kebiasaan (Habitual action) atau kegiatan yang terjadi berulang-ulang atau terus-menerus.

Ex: I run three times a week.

2. Menyatakan kebenaran umum (General Truth).

Ex: The sun rises in the East

3. Membicarakan sesuatu hal yang akan terjadi di masa datang (yang merupakan jadwal, program,acara, atau kegiatan lain yang terencana/ berseri).

Ex: The train arrives at 8.15

Simple present tense dibagi dalam 2 bentuk yaitu:

1. Tobe/nominal sentence => kalimat yang merupakan pernyataan

2. Verbal sentence => kalimat yang mengandung kata kerja (melakukan sesuatu)

Verbal Sentence

Affirmative

(Positif)

S + Tobe (is, am, are) + O

I = am

you, we, they = are

he, she, it = is

Ex:

* I am the best student in my class.
* You are my friend.
* She is my sister.

S  + Verb 1/s/es + O

I, you, we, they = V 1

He, she, it = Vs/es

Ex:

* I drink a cup of coffee.
* She drinks a cup of coffee.
* My father fixes my bike.

Negative

(Negatif)

S + Tobe + not + O

are not = aren’t

is not = isn’t

Ex:

* I am not child anymore.
* She is not (isn’t) angry with me.
* You are not (aren’t) my friend.

S + Do/Does + not + Verb 1 + O

I, you, we, they = Do

He, she, it = Does

Do not = don’t

Does not = doesn’t

Ex:

* We do not (don’t) like oranges.
* She does not (doesn’t) know my name

(jika sudah ada does, bentuk Vs/es akan kembali ke bentuk awal / Verb1 jadi tidak perlu ditambah s/es lagi)

Interrogative

(Tanya)

Tobe + S + O ?

Ex:

* Is she your friend?

Answer:   – Yes, he is

-  No, he is not (isn’t)

* are they good people?

Answer:   – Yes, they are

-  No, they are not (aren’t)

Do/Does + S + Verb I + O ?

I, you, we, they = Do

He, she, it = Does

Ex:

* Do you forget my name?

Answer:   – Yes, I do

- No, I do not (don’t)

* Does  he study at his room?

Answer:   – Yes, he does

-  No, he does not (doesn’t)
